I started practicing yoga several years ago. While I was finishing my Master's degree, I discovered a few poses described in NATURAL HEALTH magazine. I practiced those half dozen poses regularly and soon started buying up all the videotapes I could. Finally, I discovered Bryan Kest's Power Yoga videotapes. I was attracted to Power Yoga because of its vigorous workout. Power Yoga gave me peace of mind as well as a strong, supple body. It became a way of life for me. I quit the gym and committed my free time to my practice and to learning the Ashtanga primary series from which much of power yoga has developed. I took a teacher's training course with Doug Swenson, a renowned Ashtanga instructor. Immediately after that I opened the studio. I started Yoga Shack to share my discovery with as many people as possible.

I used to suffer from frequent and intense migraine headaches. Several doctors had suggested that I try yoga in order to learn to relax thereby alleviating the tension that caused these miserable headaches. I must admit that I was a little pessimistic about the whole yoga experience, erroneously thinking that basic stretching couldn't possibly help. Nevertheless, in February of this year (2001), I incorporated regular yoga practice into my everyday life. Since I began my practice, I have experienced only a few mild headaches. No migraines. In addition, I have noticed very positive changes in my body and my overall well being. I am stronger, more relaxed and peaceful, more even-tempered, and more aware of my body and breath. I love how my practice makes me feel, and am happy to have the opportunity to share this feeling with others through teaching. If you're thinking of exploring yoga, I encourage the journey. It is well worth your time.

I started doing yoga several years ago in my own living room. I started with simple yoga poses and routines that I found in Living Arts yoga videotapes. At that time I was into aerobics, running, muscle toning, any form of exercise and felt yoga gave me a well-rounded workout routine. On a deeper level, yoga was very therapeutic for my occupied mind. I was so caught up with the end result of everything I was doing that I hardly noticed where I was in the present moment. As for my body, yoga curved my exercise routine and taught me to take a breath and observe my body in the present moment and focus less on the outcome of a workout. I started coming to the Yoga Shack in 2003 and fell in love with Ashtanga and Power yoga. I loved the flow of Ashtanga and Power yoga and was surprised at not only what a great workout they provided but how great I felt afterwards. I felt I had found a workout that could train both my body and mind. In 2005, I decided to go through the yoga teacher training at the Yoga Shack so that I could learn more about the practice and be able to share it with anyone who is looking.

I have been a student of Yoga since 1988. Different disciplines of Hatha Yoga studied include Ashtanga, Power, and Iyengar Yoga. The therapeutic benefits of Iyengar Yoga led me to teaching in Ventura, California, in 1998. I was a Yoga Instructor at the Ventura Family YMCA and Ventura Yoga Studio before moving to Reno. In May, 2000, I joined the staff at the Yoga Shack. My Iyengar instructors have included Bryan Legere and Beverly Graves. I have attended numerous Iyengar workshops given by Felicity Green, Aadil Palkhivala, Manouso Manos, Gloria Goldberg, Roger Cole, and well as TeacherÌs Training with Felicity Green. Recognizing that all students have a varying degree of ability and needs, I personalize attention to each student. I began my study of Ashtanga Yoga in Ventura in 1994 and continued through 1996. Upon moving to Reno in 2000, I resumed Ashtanga and began Power Yoga at the Yoga Shack. Ashtanga workshops attended have included Richard Freeman and Doug Swenson. In 2003 I became a Certified Ashtanga and Power Yoga Instructor through the Teacher Training Program at the Yoga Shack. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher with the National Yoga Alliance.

The first time I practiced yoga, I knew it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I love the calming effect yoga has on my body, and especially my over-active mind. The balance and ever deepening level of awareness that I find in my yoga practice carries into everyday life. I feel yoga helps me to face challenges head-on with a clear mind and an able body. The benefits yoga delivers to all aspects of my life are limitless, and the growth is endless.

Born with a congenital birth defect of the spine, I have suffered debilitating back pain from the time I was a teen. Specialists suggested surgery. Chiropractors suggested bones being cracked on a weekly basis for a life time. Offered no reasonable solution, I sought physical therapy. From there I took matters into my own hands. With the help of the local library, I began practicing basic asanas at home. After many months of consistent practice my back pain was relieved and posture improved. I also noticed a subtle, positive adjustment in my attitude. Excited by the changes and ready for a challenge I ventured out into the world of yoga. I attended my first Power and Ashtanga classes at the Yoga Shack in 2001 and have been a regular ever since. In 2004 I completed the Yoga Shack's teacher training program. I am passionate about teaching and sharing the journey of yoga. I look forward to a life time of learning and practicing yoga, on and off the mat.

I have been doing yoga since the summer of 2002. I have always been active in sports and consistent in working out. I found my best workout through yoga. Not only does it work every muscle in the body but it stimulates the mind as well. This full body sustaining has lead me to want to teach yoga and share as much as I can with others. I am a teacher by profession so teaching yoga came easy to me. I know that no matter where life¹s path takes me, yoga will always be a major part of it.
